Consultation Survey: LGBTQ2S Youth Suicide Prevention Toolkit

Egale Canada Human Rights Trust (Egale) is Canada’s only national charity promoting human rights based on sexual orientation and gender identity through research, education, and community engagement.  Egale’s vision is a Canada, and ultimately a world, without homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and all other forms of oppression, so that every person can achieve their full potential, free from hatred and bias.

In 2012, Egale hosted Canada’s first national LGBTQ2S Youth Suicide Prevention Summit, which brought together over 50 experts, including healthcare policymakers, social workers, LGBTQ2S community members, and Aboriginal service providers, and which culminated in the drafting of 20 recommendations to prevent suicide among LGBTQ2S youth. Egale is currently implementing the recommendation that calls for the development and dissemination of an LGBTQ2S Youth Suicide Prevention Toolkit.

Egale has contracted Horizons Community Development Associates (www.horizonscda.ca) to review existing resources, consult with stakeholders, and develop the toolkit content. These activities are occurring simultaneously. One component of the consultation is a web survey, which community members and suicide prevention stakeholders are invited to complete by end of day Wednesday March 25th.  To access the survey, please click here: http://horizonscda.ca/surveys/index.php/282347/lang-en

We are seeking input/validation on the toolkit contents from LGBTQ2S youth suicide prevention stakeholders across the country.  This survey is an important opportunity for stakeholders to augment the information that we have already collected.

The web survey consists of four sections:

1)      A bit of background information about you and/or your organization

2)      Feedback on the toolkit content

3)      The opportunity to identify resources or tools that you find useful in your work

4)      An opportunity for additional comments

Your participation is voluntary and should take between 20 – 30 minutes.  If you choose to participate, your input will be combined with the input from other survey participants, and incorporated into the toolkit. You don’t have to be able to answer every question.  We want to provide an opportunity for everyone who has information to share it where relevant.  If there is a question that doesn’t apply to you, or you feel you don’t have enough information to comment, you can simply move to the next question or to the next set of questions, by clicking NEXT.  You can skip any question you would rather not answer, and you can withdraw at any point if you wish.

If you are not able to complete the survey at one time, you may return and complete it later, until March 25th.

If you have any questions or concerns about the web survey, please feel free to call Cari Patterson (Horizons Community Development Associates) at (902) 582-7940 or cari@horizonscda.ca, or Ryan Dyck (Egale) at (416) 964-7887 x7201 or rdyck@egale.ca.
