Aging with Affirmation: Needs of Trans and Gender-Diverse Older Adults
What are the healthcare and social service experiences and needs of trans and gender-diverse (TGD) older adults in Canada? What is needed to improve care systems for this population? In this webinar, we present the findings of a qualitative study, which involved focus groups with TGD adults ages 50+, community advocates, and service providers to address these questions. This study, which was a collaboration between Egale and a team of researchers, generated insight into the current issues of TGD older adults in Canada, and resulted in a greater understanding of policy and practice changes needed to address these priorities.

2SLGBTQI Attitudes of Medical Assistance in Dying and Mental Illness
In March 2027, medical assistance in dying (MAID, also referred to as physician-assisted suicide) in Canada will be available to those with mental illness (MI) as the sole underlying condition (MAID-MI). Given that 2SLGBTQI communities experience high rates of mental illness and suicide as well as unique barriers to accessing mental healthcare and supports, how do 2SLGBTQI individuals feel about the upcoming legalization of MAID-MI?
In this presentation, we will explore findings and recommendations from a research study engaging 2SLGBTQI individuals with mental illness in Atlantic Canada.
