Removal of Fox News from Canada

Preventing Fox News from inciting hate, violence, and discrimination in its programming against the 2SLGBTQI people and other equity-deserving communities in Canada.

Egale Canada is seeking for the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to remove Fox News from the list of non-Canadian programming authorized for distribution in Canada.

Fox News’ programming is in clear violation of Canadian broadcasting standards and has no place on Canadian broadcasting networks. Fox News has made false and horrifying claims about 2SLGBTQI people – including painting them as violent and dangerous.

Let’s be clear, Egale’s application to the CRTC is not about censorship. This is about preventing Fox News from inciting hate, violence, and discrimination in its programming against the 2SLGBTQI people and other equity-deserving communities in Canada.

September 19, 2023: Letter from the CRTC in Response to Egale Canada’s Application

On September 19, 2023 the CRTC informed Egale Canada that it intends to hold a public consultation on its regulatory approach in overseeing non-Canadian television services, which is to begin in the coming months. We ask the CRTC to proceed with urgency, as the lack of an effective framework to address violations of Canadian broadcasting law by non-Canadian programming services means that these violations can continue indefinitely.
