Alan Dingle, a gay man who was violently beaten because of his sexual orientation, testified with EGALE before the Justice Committee. “Sexual orientation must be explicitly retained in the legislation to send a clear message that violence against lesbians and gays is just not acceptable behaviour,” said Dingle. “It is not a ‘special right’ to walk the streets of this country without fearing for your life.”

“This Bill is a clear Red Book commitment,” Fisher added. “Liberal MPs who refuse to support the Bill should be subject to the same disciplining that occurred with rebel MPs over gun control. Consistency demands no less.”
