FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 16, 2025
As the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit approaches, over 100 organizations and nearly 100 individuals from 37 countries have signed on to the Pride7 2025 Communique, calling on G7 governments to take meaningful action in support of LGBTQIA+ rights worldwide. Egale Canada, the country’s leading organization for 2SLGBTQI people and issues and the 2025 chair of the Pride7, will be in attendance at the G7 to amplify this call.
Last month, Pride7 members, representing nine countries, met in Ottawa for the Pride7 Summit. Following the summit, Pride7 released its 2025 Communiqué, outlining key policy recommendations aimed at advancing the rights and well-being of LGBTQIA+ communities globally.
“The message of Pride7 Communiqué is clear: G7 commitments to democracy, human rights, and sustainable development cannot be realized without addressing the systemic discrimination, violence, and exclusion faced by LGBTQIA+ people”, said Helen Kennedy, Executive Director of Egale Canada.
A fundamental focus of the Communiqué is a call for G7 leaders to officially recognize Pride7 as a formal civil society engagement group – on par with Women7, Civil7, and Youth7. Recognizing Pride7 is not a symbolic gesture – it is a vital step toward ensuring LGBTQIA+ voices, expertise, and lived experiences help shape global policies and decisions at the highest level.
