This year, we call on everyone to take “rainbow action” as we face an exponential rise in anti-2SLGBTQI hate.
Each year on May 17, the world marks the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAH OBIT) — a global moment to stand in solidarity with 2SLGBTQI communities and spotlight the urgent need to confront hate and discrimination. Launched in 2003 by Fondation Émergence, IDAHOBIT has grown into a powerful day of awareness and action recognized across the globe.
This year, the call to action is more pressing than ever. Around the world, including here in Canada, we are witnessing an alarming surge in anti-2SLGBTQI hate, from the spread of misinformation and disinformation that targets the efforts in making a more inclusive world, to the waves of direct discriminatory policies targeting trans and queer communities. Hate crimes, mis-/disinformation, and coordinated efforts to strike down rights are on the rise, threatening the safety and dignity of 2SLGBTQI people.
Amid this rising anti-2SLGBTQI hate, we are calling on everyone to take rainbow action!
