Nonbinary Awareness Week – a time to shine light on the experiences, resilience, and rights of nonbinary people in Canada and around the world.
Jump to: Resources | Research | Workshops
Each year, the week following International Nonbinary People’s Day (July 14) is recognized as Nonbinary Awareness Week – a time to shine light on the experiences, resilience, and rights of nonbinary people in Canada and around the world.
In 2025, this week arrives during a critical moment. Across the country, trans and nonbinary communities are facing a troubling surge in anti-2SLGBTQI hate – driven by misinformation and disinformation, that seeks to undermine their safety, dignity, and humanity. From harmful policy decisions in Saskatchewan, and Alberta to ongoing barriers in healthcare, education, and employment, the need for support has never been greater.
On this page, you’ll find a range of resources, research, and tools designed to support nonbinary communities and educate allies.
Together, we can build a more informed, and inclusive Canada—where nonbinary people are not just seen, but celebrated.
This Nonbinary Awareness Week, we ask everyone – allies and community members alike, to take some time to reflect, learn more about the issues that nonbinary people face, and to raise your voice against injustice towards nonbinary people in all its forms.
What is ‘Nonbinary’?
A person who experiences their gender as not exclusively man or woman. When used as an umbrella term, it encompasses identities reflecting a range of gender experiences, including agender and genderfluid.
