Egale Canada invites you to be a part of our National Coming Out Day campaign.

Please send video and written submissions by September 23.

With anti-2SLGBTQI hate rising across Canada, many queer and trans youth may not feel safe to come out this National Coming Out Day. This is why it’s more important than ever that we all come together to help 2SLGBTQI youth feel supported and accepted for who they are.

As supportive and affirming adults in the community, we invite you to submit a video or written submission for a chance to be a part of our national Coming Out Together campaign:

  • Coming Out Together is about encouraging adults to ‘come out’ as supportive, affirming and safe people in the lives of 2SLGBTQI youth.
  • Taking the pledge to ‘Come Out’ as an affirming adult, means taking concrete actions to foster safer spaces for 2SLGBTQI youth.
  • We invite you to send us (1) a video of yourself (up to one minute in length) or a (2) written submission sharing about why you are taking the pledge to ‘Come Out’ as an affirming adult.
  • Our goal is to create a video with these submissions that shows 2SLGBTQI young people that they are loved, accepted, and supported, regardless of whether or not they are out.

Disclaimer: By submitting a video or written response for the Coming Out Together campaign, you are authorizing Egale Canada to use this content at our discretion. Videos and written submissions will be subject to editing and publication on Egale Canada-owned channels. Video submissions must be from individuals 18 years of age or older.

Script and Questions

Please feel free to use the below script and answer the below question to help guide you in introducing Egale’s Canada’s Coming Out Together Campaign.

Hello, my name is _____ and this coming out day, I pledge to come out as a safe, affirming adult for 2SLGBTQI youth everywhere. I’m here today as part of Egale Canada’s Coming Out Together Campaign to urge you to join me to Come Out Together, as a safe, affirming adult for queer and trans youth everywhere. Make your pledge today and use the hashtag: Come Out Together on your social media to show your support.

Answer any/all of the following questions:

  1. What does being an Affirming Adult for 2SLGBTQI youth look like or mean to you? What actions do they take, and what values do they upload?
  1. With the current rise of anti-2SLGBTQI at an all-time high, queer and trans youth need our support now more than ever. Why is it important for adults to ‘come out’ as Affirming Adults instead – as a safe person for 2SLGBTQI youth?
  1. What’s one piece of advice you would like to give parents about the importance or the process of becoming an Affirming Adult?
