Take action in support of trans and gender diverse communities.
Trans Awareness Week (Nov. 13-19) is a week to increase understanding about trans people and issues. Trans Awareness Week concludes with Trans Day of Remembrance (Nov. 20), a day to honour the lives taken due to anti-trans violence.
This Trans Awareness Week, amid rising anti-2SLGBTQI and anti-trans hate, it’s crucial to go beyond awareness and take actionable steps to support trans, nonbinary, Two Spirit, and gender diverse people. With rising misinformation, anti-trans views, and transphobic policies threatening 2SLGBTQI rights, this moment calls for allies to take action.
Canada is witnessing an increase in anti-trans sentiment, impacting everything from inclusive healthcare to the safety and rights of trans youth. Legislation and policy decisions in some areas have limited access to necessary protections, placing trans and gender-diverse youth at heightened risk. Now more than ever, allyship requires not only standing against discrimination but also actively working to dismantle the structures that fuel hate and adversity.
With proactive and ongoing allyship, we can create a society that respects and values everyone, ensuring that trans, nonbinary, Two Spirit, and genderfluid individuals can be equal not other.
