OUT in the Kitchen
15 March 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree
Asam Ahmad has been cooking South Asian food for most of his adult life, and is committed to using food and the act of sharing a meal to create dialogue around oppression, diasporic memories and the ancestral legacies we all carry within us. Asam is passionate about making food from scratch, especially, rotis, parathas, curries and bejewelled rice.
Asam Ahmad is a multidisciplinary writer, poet, scholar and community organizer, that just learned how to perfect hand rolled parathas! He has been actively involved in student, queer and social justice movements locally and nationally for the past 10 years. His writing and poetry have appeared in Colorlines Magazine, CounterPunch, Briarpatch magazine, Shameless Magazine, Now Magazine, Black Girl Dangerous and in the collection Killing Trayvons: An Anthology of American Violence. He is a co-founder of the It Gets Fatter project, a body-positivity project for self-identified fat people of color.
We look forward to seeing everyone and the community coming together for a night of delicious free food.
