Egale Canada operates alongside international partners, networks, and in working groups to advance sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics (SOGIESC) rights around the world. Internationally, Egale’s work falls into two categories: advocacy in international spaces and implementing capacity strengthening programs for partner organizations.
Egale’s overarching international goal has been to increase the respect, protection, and fulfilment of human rights and socio-economic outcomes for LGBTQI individuals in the countries we work in.
To date, Egale has supported projects in 15 countries across Asia, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, and Southern Africa.
To support increased participation for trans and intersex populations across society, Egale partnered with Transbantu Zambia to bolster research and influence community attitudes in Zambia.
Two projects, funded by the Act Together for Inclusion Fund (ACTIF) from 2021 to 2023, and 2024 to 2026, mobilize campaigns for societal acceptance of trans and gender-diverse people and to engage leaders across education,
Lesbian, Bisexual and Queer (LBQ) women in Asia are historically under-researched, under-funded, and under-represented in both domestic and international discussions. In collaboration with our partner Asia Feminist LBQ Network, and funded by ACTIF from 2024 to 2026, we aim to catalyze systemic change through increasing the inclusivity and involvement of LBQ women in diverse aspects of society, from governance to policy advocacy spaces. Specifically, the project will support leadership capacity strengthening for LBQ women in Asia.
Funded by ACTIF from 2012 to 2023, Egale worked together with Intersex Asia to produce four ground-breaking community-based research reports on the state of human rights and socio-economic outcomes for intersex individuals in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Pakistan. The reports also explore the potential for advocacy efforts and future concerns. Egale continues to work with Intersex Asia to advance intersex rights throughout the continent.
Egale maintains close connections through domestic, regional, and international partnerships, including with TransBantu Zambia, Asia Feminist LBQ Network, Eastern Caribbean Alliance for Diversity and Equality (ECADE), and Intersex Asia.
Egale also works in close collaboration with the Amsterdam Network, Canadian International Education Policy Working Group, CAN/UK/US Alliance, Dignity Network Canada, Equal Rights Coalition, ILGA NAC, ILGA World, Lavendar Law, OAS Coalition of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transvestite, Intersex and Sex Workers Organizations (LGBTTTI&TS), Pride7, and Women Peace and Security Network of Canada.
