We want our staff to feel supported at work and outside of it. Take vacations, get the coverage you need to take care of yourself and have time to give back.
Egale Canada is committed to inclusion, equity, diversity, and accessibility (IDEA) in employment and therefore strongly encourages people of diverse, intersecting, and marginalized identities to apply. We recognize that equity goes beyond hiring and requires internal supports to allow our employees to show up as their authentic selves. Here are a few of the ways that Egale Canada supports employee belonging at work:
Recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
We see this is not as a holiday, but a day of learning, being with your communities and honouring stolen lives.
Paid personal days
Showing up can be hard and sometimes you need a day to take care of yourself or those around you.
Paid time off around the year-end holidays
Take time for yourself, your needs and your loved ones.
Right to disconnect policy
To help you maintain boundaries when working remotely.
Flexible work hours
Start your day between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. to work with other responsibilities
Staff recognition initiatives and appreciation events
Because we value your work and want you to be celebrated
All staff learning
All staff engage in ongoing learning within their work hours, through means such as guest speakers, participating in our webinars, and online courses.
Professional development
Your growth and work satisfaction are important to us – we encourage and support professional development for our staff.
Funding for queer affirmation
Apply for financial support from an internal, committee-led fund to assists with the costs of affirming your gender and/or queerness.
Employee committees
Your voice matters. Join an employee committee to have a say in organizational changes and/or improvements.
Gender-affirming accommodations
We understand coming out is a journey. At Egale Canada, we support the journey through means such as assistance changing your name and/or pronouns at work, understanding your name may be different from your legal name and respecting names wherever possible, and time off for transition-related surgeries.
Egale Canada is committed to work led by and for the community. We strive to ensure members of equity-denied groups, from a broad range of communities, feel empowered to apply for positions within the organization. We encourage qualified applicants to consider work opportunities with Egale Canada because a diverse work force is critical to accomplishing our mission. The organization is dedicated to taking proactive steps to overcome historical patterns of discrimination in employment which have created barriers of race, colour, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, language, class, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression for some individuals.
Egale Canada welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process. If you have questions or requests for accommodations, please email HR@Egale.ca.
We are looking for candidates who are familiar with 2SLGBTQI communities, either through lived experience or previous work/volunteer experience. It is important to us all staff understand intersectionality and anti-oppressive/anti-racist frameworks and can work independently. French is an asset.
If you believe you do not have these skills but are open to learning and have other assets to bring to our organization, please still consider applying. Your cover letter can be used as an opportunity to describe how your work, volunteering, or lived experience might be translated to a role.
