Q&A with Adam Goldenberg
June 2025
Adam is a lawyer and partner at McCarthy Tétrault LLP in Toronto, who supports Egale through pro bono work and donations to fight anti-trans laws. He’s motivated by his past and believes in protecting trans youth and advancing 2SLGBTQI rights through courts and education.

River is a trans woman and lesbian originally from France, now in Ontario, who supports Egale to help protect trans youth and fight transphobic laws. She’s driven by her own transition experience and believes in ensuring safety and equality for all 2SLGBTQI people.

Legacy gifts contribute to our vision of a Canada, and ultimately a world, without homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and all other forms of oppression so that every person can achieve their full potential, free from hatred and bias.
You can support 2SLGBTQI communities in Canada, and around the world, even after your lifetime, by making a gift in your Will. A bequest is a future gift that doesn’t cost you anything during your lifetime. To leave a gift to Egale Canada, you either need to create a Will, or add a simple addition to your Will – called a codicil.

A gift in your Will of even 1% after your loved ones have been looked after, will bring new momentum to our cause. This gift may ease the burden of probate fees (fees paid to the government when establishing your Will) and can also provide you with a tax benefit.

- Egale Canada will issue an official receipt for the full value of the bequest.

- You can choose to make changes to your Will at any time.
Ways to leave a gift in your will
- Leave a percentage of your estate.
- Leave a specific dollar amount.
- Leave a residual bequest – share of the remainder of your estate after other needs are met.
- Or, leave a contingent bequest – a share of your estate after your other beneficiaries have passed on.

Join the Law Firm Fundraising Challenge 2026 in support of our Legal Advocacy work to protect 2SLGBTQI rights and protections.
Participating firms will raise critical funds to support 2SLGBTQI legal advocacy, litigation, and court interventions – through email appeals to their staff and/or clients, bake sales, events, golf tournaments, and other creative ways – to compete to be the top fundraising firm!
