Drawing on our groundbreaking research reports on 2SLGBTQI people’s experiences and needs in navigating healthcare, Egale contributed the following submission to the House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Health (HESA) for its study of women’s health. In this brief, we use the insights gained from our study of mental health supports and social determinants of health among 2SLGBTQI people, our qualitative needs assessment by and for intersexualized adults in Canada, and a forthcoming study on healthcare access experiences and needs among lesbian, bisexual, and queer women and trans and nonbinary people. We recommended that the federal government take steps to ensure that all healthcare providers in Canada are equipped to provide respectful and competent care to 2SLGBTQI people and to improve the affordability of healthcare services and medication.
