News was released today that the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) is warning that serious violence against the 2SLGBTQI community will be an ongoing threat throughout the coming year. Egale Canada remains deeply concerned about this rise in anti-2SLGBTQI hate and violence, and we continue to call on all levels of government to take immediate action.
We are seeing an increase in disinformation-fuelled hate that is threatening the safety, freedoms, and rights of 2SLGBTQI people, especially those who are Two Spirit, trans, nonbinary, and/or gender non-conforming. We see it in the anti-trans policies and policy proposals emerging provincially and federally, and in the rising rates of hate crimes, hate speech, and hate in the form of coordinated anti-trans protests in cities across Canada.
We are calling on all levels of government to take these threats seriously, and to take action on the necessary changes that Egale has been insisting on for many months now.
