Thank you to everyone who submitted their work to the Egale Canada Human Rights Trust Out in Print Literary Award 2014!  We received a lot of wonderful entries and our team of judges are busy reading them all now.  Stay tuned for the announcement of the 2014 winner later this summer!

 

An award for queer & trans-spectrum, female-identified writers who have never before been published in book form

The Egale Canada Human Rights Trust Out in Print Literary Award 2014 provides financial and publishing support to an emerging queer and/or trans-spectrum, female-identified writer in Canada. The award is intended for a writer who has never before been published in book form and without book contract.

 

Significant dates of the 2014 Annual Out in Print Literary Award:

January 31st, 2014: Now accepting applications for submissions.

April 30th, 2014: Last day for applications to be submitted by 5:00pm EST.

July 31st, 2014: Winner announced – design and publishing process begin.

2015: Book launch and reading event for selected winner.


What kinds of submissions are eligible for the Award?

  • Submission genres may include poetry, or a fictional or non-fictional novel.
  • We are currently only accepting complete manuscripts at this time, and NOT accepting samples of works completed or in progress.

The recipient of the 2014 Out in Print Literary Award will receive:

To be eligible to apply for this award, applicants must:

  • Be queer and/or trans-spectrum identified
  • Be female-identified
  • Never before have been published in book form and without book contract
  • Be of any age
  • Live in Canada (but does not have to be a Canadian citizen)

The Out in Print Literary Award 2014 is open to all applicants who are female identified within the Queer & Trans Spectrum. We welcome applications from individuals regardless of skin colour, religion, citizenship, age, ability, and/or socio-economic status.

The award is offered to honour the lives of Marcia Lewis, Goldie Swartz and Florence Horvitz, three women who, restricted by social norms and obligations or a life cut short, were unable to become the women that they dreamed they would be.
