On August 28th, 2022, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Minister for Women and Gender Equality, the honourable Marcie Ien, released Canada’s first Federal 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan. In this response, Egale Canada lauds this historical launch by noting the positive measures while also bringing to light the gaps within the policy guidance and the implementation strategies. While describing the gaps in Federal Action plan within the areas of healthcare and mental health access; poverty, housing, and employment; education access; sports inclusion; seniors; criminal law and reforms; and international assistance, Egale offers recommendations (also detailed out in our previous National Action Plan submission in 2020) in the hopes of guiding further consultations with communities and organizations in order to bridge these gaps to help guide government efforts in further iterations of the Federal Action Plan.
