Over 60% of 2SLGBTQI youth feel unsafe being their authentic selves at school – impacting their sense of safety, well-being, and belonging.
No matter where you live in Canada, what you look like, how old you are, whom you love or how you identify, everyone deserves to feel accepted and safe at home, at school, and in their community. This rings especially true during the holidays with celebrations of togetherness.
Everyone deserves the Gift of Belonging.
Yet, for so many 2SLGBTQI people who are not accepted by their families and communities, the holidays can be a tough time of year — and it’s already been a difficult year for 2SLGBTQI people across our country.
Throughout 2023, we have seen anti-2SLGBTQI and anti-trans hate continue to escalate.
This is why Egale’s work to inform public policy, inspire cultural change, and promote human rights and inclusion through research, education, awareness, and legal advocacy is more important than ever.
Through our annual Gift of Belonging campaign, your support fuels our work to achieve our vision of a Canada, and ultimately a world, without homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and all other forms of oppression so that every person can achieve their full potential, free from hatred and bias.

How your donation makes a REAL impact
Research
Research is the foundation of our work and informs everything we do at Egale. Centering 2SLGBTQI experiences, our research is community-based, participatory, and action-oriented. The reports we publish are used nationally, and often globally, to create positive change for 2SLGBTQI people.
Education
Education is essential in building more inclusive and accessible spaces for 2SLGBTQI people. Leveraging the research data, we create educational products and resources in order to enable change, particularly in schools, workplaces, healthcare, and justice sectors.
Awareness
Our awareness initiatives and campaigns elevate the voices of 2SLGBTQI communities and draw attention to some of the most pressing issues in order to inform and inspire the general public to begin their own journeys in inclusivity and belonging, starting with our educational resources.
Legal Advocacy
Our legal advocacy work aims to protect 2SLGBTQI people in policy and legislation at all levels of government and beyond. This complements our research, education, and awareness initiatives to ensure the work we do has lasting impact.
